Ideal for primary school tours, Dublinia is located right in the heart of Dublin City Centre at Christchurch and explores life in Viking and Medieval Dublin. It is one of the top school attractions in Dublin.
What your visit will be like: Your visit will start with a journey through the city as it was in Viking and Medieval Dublin. Students will engage with reconstructions of Dublin’s past and experience what life was like in Viking times. They will explore a Viking house, hear the story Dublin’s Viking King Sitric Silkbeard and feel the weight of Viking weaponry. Next their journey will take them to Medieval Dublin after the Anglo-Norman arrival in 1169A.D. Here, students will explore fascinating sensory reconstructions of a Medieval house and street, stalls in a Medieval fair, and hear the gruesome history of the Black Death. New for 2020 to end your class visit, they will enjoy an audio-visual experience of one man’s life growing up in Medieval Dublin in a ‘flying’ visit over Dublin city as it was in Medieval times.
Curriculum-based Guided Tours: Our tours are interactive, engaging, and fun while also paying particular attention to areas relevant to the curriculum. Tours are designed in-line with the primary school curriculum and students are guided by our trained living historians wearing historically accurate costume. Tours are tailored and adaptable based on specific class needs. Our curriculum-based primary school tour is age- and ability-specific ensuring classes get an individually tailored educational experience.
Teachers Resources: Featuring audio visual interactives focused on the history of Viking and Medieval Dublin, our Online Learning website is a free online platform for your class, accessible from our website, www.dublinia.ie. It includes nine audio visual animations with interactive elements on nine historical sites in Dublin. This is an excellent primary school resource for the classroom environment, that also works on interactive whiteboards.
