Richmond Barracks welcomes both tour for primary and secondary schools. For younger students the museum has a restored 1920’s classroom, with desks, chalk and slates etc… Students will reflect on the childhood of garrison children, who lead peripatetic lives and faced harsh realities at times. The focus for secondary schools students revolves around the complex 200 year history at Richmond Barracks, dating from military barracks, through the 1916 Rising and the social history of the building and local area. Students will have the opportunity to consider Ireland’s simultaneous involvement in the Rising and the First World War and reconciliation of both traditions in Ireland. Prior bookings are required for school visits. Guided tours take place at 11am and 2pm. Pre-booked tours can be arranged for Saturdays at 11am.
