Holycross Abbey is one of Ireland’s national monuments. Guided school tours of Holycross Abbey are offered to Primary and Secondary Schools. The Abbey is a restored medieval monastery and is now a parish church. It boasts many unique features including the oldest church bell in Ireland, two shrines that are the highpoint of cistercian art, two relics of the True Cross, etc. The tour touches on many strands of the History curriculum including early people and ancient societies, story, life, work, and culture.
